Pelton Prototype

WD Power received various requests for a low-cost Pelton turbine, that could be used to generate power. This prompted the development of a unit capable of generating 1.5 kW DC power for charging a battery bank.

The design focus was to use existing components as far as possible in the prototype design. This will ensure low initial cost and easy maintenance. The prototype turbine was successfully tested in the test bed and all design criteria could be met. The test unit operated at 30m head and a flow of 10 l/s. Peak output measured was 1.6 kW.

With a proven prototype, it will now be easy to scale the design with confidence, matching specific site conditions.
